A second tally of time to teach: third and fourth weeks

Labor Day on September 1 reduced Week Three to four days:

Tuesday, September 2:  a full day at 5 hours for Curriculum and Instruction

Wednesday, September 3:  another normal day with 3.5 hours after Specials

Thursday, September 4: a field trip to the Museum and Planetarium gave us a full 5 hours of C & I

Friday, September 5:  another normal day with Specials at 3.5 hours

TOTAL for Week Three:  16 Hours for C & I

Week Four skewered by the first round of Benchmark Tests

Monday, September 8:  No interruptions, and no assistants because of the test preparation:  5 C & I hours?

Tuesday, September 9:  1 am hour for C & I and then the Reading test; 2.5 pm C & I hours:  3.5 total

Wednesday, September 10:  Specials in the morning followed by the first section of the Writing test.  Afternoon session, the second part of the Writing test, was postponed because of the social tensions in the classroom.  Problem-solving, group exercises to induce calm and meetings may be a form of Instruction, but it seems fair to count only half that time as true C & I.  Total for the day:  1.5 hrs

Thursday, September 11:  Benchmark session first to complete the Writing test, then an hour for C & I in the morning.  One hour after lunch of normal C & I before the last testing session, the Math.  Total C & I:  2 hrs.

Friday:  Normal day with extended Specials in the morning.  3 hrs. total C & I

Week’s Total:  15 hours C & I

TWO WEEK TOTAL:  31 Hours for Curriculum and Instruction
